What happened to turn my week so totally upside down this week? My year in photographs is still running to schedule......just....... it is the postings that have been letting me down! February probably wasn't the best time to tackle my week seven subject, and I have to thank my Daughter for being such a sport about appeasing me.
I love Old Portsmouth and am constantly looking for new ways to utilise the area for my portraits. I was hoping to find an old graffiti wall as Justine, my model for the day, has a fab hoodie that would fit perfectly....no chance! I am always drawn to piers and more often than not, the area under the pier proves to be alluring more alluring than the pier itself. South Parade Pier is a little weather beaten and now has little commercial use so it is a great place for a photographer to play.
Heading under the pier, I set about setting up my SB800's using the wireless system. I metered to underexpose the ambient lighting by 1 stop and set my first flash at approx 45 degrees to my subject. It was freezing so I took pity on Justine and let her keep her coat on for my first shot.
After I was comfortable with the lighting setup, I aksed justine to take off her coat ( a bit mean as it was only about 2 degrees!) Justine pulled off some great shots which I think really show off her personality to a tee.
Pushing my luck a little further....and I was given approx a three minute window, Justine agrred to wear a little white dress and paddle in the water. I was hoping to acheive some beautiful shots of Justine messing about in the water.....perhaps we shall try this again when the weather is a little warmer!
A special thank you has to go to Justine for being such a star. I am soooooo glad that your defrosted, and your feet returned to normal....eventually. Next time we will wait for the Indian summer to arrive and perhaps give that litte red dress and outing! A little photo editing has aided the eviction of Bob & Joan xx
